At dawn the water usually shimmered sapphire blue, enchanting every living thing around it. Today was no different, and she enjoyed every second running close to the lake’s shores. If only the birds wouldn’t fly away whenever she came close to them. Of course she wouldn’t hurt them. She wasn’t a monster, but surely the little winged creatures couldn’t know that.
Oh, that water though, it made any disappointment fade, and her desire to take a swim grew bigger with every glance at the gentle waves breaking the perfectly flat surface. Though, as a shiver ran down her spine, she shook her head. It was definitely too cold this morning. Then she turned away, back to the path, and followed it on around the lake.
When a swooshing sound, out of nowhere, passed over her head, a yellow ball, about fifty yards in front of her, suddenly bounced through the uncut grass. A quick turn, a joyous realisation, and off she went chasing after the object. She was going to be one happily exhausted little puppy after this walk.
