Sometimes when you drop the ball, not just those around you will scream and shout, but you begin to insult yourself. How could it happen? Why now? You’ve been practicing moments like this almost every day. But, when the time comes, your mind suddenly betrays your motor abilities and mocks you publicly. You close your eyes, hoping it will all go away. It never does.
As you open your eyes again the pitch suddenly turns into an endless green plain with grinning opponents, and walls of spectators closing-in around you who want to strangle you. What wouldn’t you give for the San Andreas Fault to extend all the way to your feet now, open up, and swallow you whole? No such luck.
Everyone saw it, and everyone sees you. Yes, you’ve dropped the ball… and it looked spectacularly silly, but thankfully you’re not a goalkeeper and it was only a throw-in.
