As time began to slow and his mind finally eased into a long-lost rhythm of tranquillity the sun was already setting. Armed with a cup of tea and a blanket around his feet, he embraced the cold winter evening. He sat on a chair by the window, realising how rare this moment had become for him. A demand here, a chore there, the distractions came from all angles and in all colours, the universe could offer. Truth be told, he enjoyed the busyness and sense of accomplishment. However, sometimes he longed for those carefree toddler-esk moments. Just for a moment, as the world took care of him, he could nap while nobody else was allowed to. He would mute all those notifications, on the devices he proudly paraded around as technological marvels, that supposedly made his life easier. Tomorrow, he believed that lie again. Because he knew; if you snooze, you lose. Though he didn’t realize; if you never slept, you were never really awake either. Nonetheless, he took a deep breath, glanced out the window over darkened rooftops, and sipped his tea. Then, slowly the carousel started spinning again.
