Finding Beauty

Down the river swims the fish while raindrops pierce the surface of the water. The clouds had been obstructing the sunny warmth for many days already, leaving the golden brown squirrel sitting within his dry treehouse hideaway with a gloomy expression. Meanwhile, the birds continued, like they always did, to chirp their melodic songs, as if they were trying to dance away the cooling weather that kept summer from unfolding. Though the rain had its beauty too, and with the overload of water the leaves, the grass, and yes even the moss on the wooden palisades near the little pier turned into a majestic and juicy green buffet for any hungry deer that dared to come out of hiding.

The longer he stared, from under the roof of his deck, the more he discovered that even without the sun nature around him held nothing but beauty. Instantly his initial sadness about a sunless vacation faded, while he listened to the happy birds singing.

Animals always know best, he thought leaning back on his chair to observe the nature around him.
