Closer to Home

It had been one of those long and annoying days again. The blistering heat had burnt down on him relentlessly while he hustled with great effort to reach his home for dinner.

What kind of a life is this, he asked himself, looking at the clear blue sky.

Every day he set out on the same journey, leaving wife and kids behind, and hoping that he’d make it back again by nightfall. Surely there was a way to end all this traveling and find a job closer to home. Had they learned nothing from recent events? It seemed like a daily headline that someone in their neighbourhood vanished without trace nor warning. At first, it seemed like a random tragedy, but the more and more cases popped up, they grew suspicious of the true reasons. Though life had never been without risk, even the most naive snail knew that this was different.

“But honey, wouldn’t it be lovely to be under lockdown for a while?” she said excitedly, “just you, me, and the kids.”

He nodded, faking a smile…

Let’s not be crazy either.
